What Type Of Artist Are You?

At Paints n Cocktails, we believe everyone is an artist! Some people just do not know it yet! We have even seen people who assumed they had no artistic ability blossom into beautiful painters and walk away with masterpieces of their very own. But you do not have to wait until one of our classes to start your artistic journey. You can start discovering what kind of artist you are right now!

Be A Collector

All artists begin by imitation, and the first step to that is finding out what you like. Start keeping a list of things that appeal to you visually. These can be real world things like stamps, road signs, or actual paintings, as well as online things you come across. Pinterest boards are great for this. Once you start to accumulate a number of items, look for trends such as if you like hard, defined lines, or free-flowing splotches of color. Are you a photorealist or more into the abstract?

Learn From The Masters

Try perusing the Internet and finding out more about all the different periods and movements of art history. Get a feeling for the difference between the impressionists and the expressionists, what art looked like when it was very old compared to what it looks like now, and how large historical events or movements like the Renaissance or World War I affected the art world. By looking at a variety of art pieces and watching how the greats painted, you can find out more about your own personal sense of taste.

Try It Out

Naturally, though, the only way to truly learn is to do, so try it for yourself! Grab a friend or come alone, bring a bottle of your favorite wine or spirits, and try out painting for yourself. We think you will find that you have much more talent than you would expect, and you will have a lot of fun expressing yourself along the way!
